Who We Are ….
The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Knights of the Imperial Orders is a Chivalric Mendicant Religious and Military Order of Knights. We live our lives by the virtues of Charity, Nobility and Faith.
The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Knights of the Imperial Orders is governed by the Sovereign Council, under the direction and authority of the Grand Crowned Prince, Grand Master, and Archbishop of the Orders.
Though we are a Christian Order of Knights; our outreach programs are offered to the community without discrimination due to Race, Sex, Religion, Sexual Orientation, Ethnic Origins, or Creed. We are here to represent and assist the whole community, as Christ commanded.
Noblesse Oblige Charities is the community outreach and fundraising arm of the Orders.
Our History ...
The Sovereign Military Hospitaller Knights of the Imperial Orders was founded on the 6th of January 754, by King Pèpin of the Franks, father to the Emperor Charlemagne, when Pope Stephen II appointed the family, "Patricius Romanus."
The Orders have changed and evolved over the thirteen centuries since the initial organization was founded. The Orders had almost been completely wiped out and forgotten until the current Grand Crowned Prince, Grand Master, and Archbishop reorganized the institution. He is the 40th Great Grandson of King Pèpin of the Franks and the 39th Great Grandson of the Emperor Charlemagne. His excellency is the 42nd Prince Grand Master of the Orders.
It is important to understand a little about the organization within the Orders. The term Orders is used because there are seven distinct orders of service and faith within the organization, as a whole. Each knight is a member of at least two orders, thus, the name of the organization.
Furthermore, each Order of Knighthood has three levels or tiers. The third tier are individuals who have been granted Knighthood but have not taken any additional steps associated with faith. The second tier are Knights who have made a promise to live their life according to religious teachings but have taken no vows. They are referred to as Knights of Promise. The first tier are Knights who are professed or vowed. These are Friar Knights. They are knights who live under religious orders.
However, before someone becomes a Knight; he or she must first be a part of the imperial court, per se. His Excellency has created a Community Outreach and Fundraising arm as a part of the National Association in the United States, Noblesse Oblige Charities. Individuals who volunteer to participate in the Noblesse Oblige Charities' programs within the Orders become a part of the IPBT initiative. Being a part of Noblesse Oblige Charities through the IPBT initiative is this initial step towards becoming a Noble of the Court.
It is through the sharing of time, talent and finances as a part of the organization that the Grand Crowned Prince will take notice and offer an individual a place in the Imperial Court (Advisory Board) to the Sovereign Council. After one year of service to the Orders, an exemplary member of the court will be offered the opportunity for Knighthood, with the accompaniment of peerage. It is consider an extreme honor and it is not offered or bestowed lightly.
It is important to note that each level of knighthood takes on an increased role financially, physically, spiritually and mentally within the Orders. With great honor, comes even greater responsibilities. Therefore, the advancement into Knighthood from being a member of the court is to be taken seriously and given a great deal of time and thought, especially since it is a lifetime commitment. For the majority, it is enough to be recognized as a Noble of the Court which, historically, has been a very coveted position in society.
